Product Introduction
The Ducom Pin-on-Disc (POD) machine is a modular friction and wear testing machine. It allows for tribological evaluation by selecting appropriate options based on different testing conditions and a wide range of test parameters. The disc sample is mounted in a rotating, heatable disc holder. The temperature of the disc can be measured for recording and control purposes. The upper sample can be a ball or a pin. A unique feature of this machine is its capability to perform both unidirectional and bidirectional sliding tests without the need for any cumbersome conversion attachments.
Test load, disc rotation speed, and wear track diameter can be computer-controlled. They can be kept constant or changed during the test. Tests can be conducted under vacuum or with the chamber filled with inert gas. Friction force and coefficient of friction during the friction process can be tested and continuously recorded.
Software
The POD friction and wear testing machine operates with WinDucom software.
The software consists of four parts – equipment control, data acquisition, analysis, and display.
Before starting the test, the test plan and sample-related information can be entered into the equipment control module. The software controls test parameters such as speed, load, temperature, and duration. Outputs such as friction force, coefficient of friction, wear, and temperature can be obtained. The coefficient of friction and volume loss can be estimated and displayed online. Acquired data can be displayed in several different ways. Graphs of individual tests can be printed. Different test results can be overlaid for comparative viewing. Collected data can be exported in ASCII format to other software.

Options
Tribological evaluation is diverse and often requires conditions that closely simulate real situations. Various options make it easier for users to meet their actual testing requirements:
1. Environmental Chamber
The gas environment in the test area can be created by introducing non-corrosive gases such as argon or nitrogen, or air with controlled humidity, into the environmental chamber.
2. Humidity-Controlled Air Generator
The humidity of the air can be preset within a range of 10%-85% relative humidity, and air at the set humidity will be generated in the environmental chamber. A humidity sensor located inside the chamber can be used to control the humidity level.
3. Lubrication Cup
The lubrication cup facilitates testing under submerged contact conditions.
4. Low-Temperature Attachment
This attachment facilitates testing of fluid-submerged contacts at low temperatures. The temperature of the pin can be monitored by a thermocouple placed in a suitable location (on the pin or elsewhere).
5. Angular Oscillation Module
This unique feature allows for bidirectional (reciprocating) testing using the POD. The disc can be set to move in angular oscillation mode, with frequency and stroke controlled by the software.
6. Chamber Heating Module
The chamber heating module consists of an oven that provides test temperatures from room temperature up to 800°C. Oven heating ensures that both the disc and the opposing sample are at the same temperature.
7. Vacuum Chamber
This option allows testing under vacuum conditions down to 10e-7 mbar. It includes a Pin-on-Disc machine (POD) with a vacuum chamber and vacuum pump. All materials and sensors used are compatible with vacuum environments.
8. Vacuum Chamber with Heating Disc
The rotating disc can be heated up to 800°C during testing. Tests can be conducted under vacuum conditions and in ambient air. The vacuum chamber and spindle are liquid-cooled to maintain their operating temperatures within limits.
